Life: An analogy to optical communication
Optical communication is the mode of communication whose roots go back to 19th century. Being a researcher in Optical & Photonics field, I can correlate the optical communication with our life very well. In this post, the human life is compared to the way optical communication works. In sort if I say, "Life is an analogy to optical communication".
Fiber optics is the important component of optical communication. Optical fibers are used now a days as the fastest mode of wired communication. The signal is transmitted in the form of light from transmitter to receiver via optical fiber. In this mode of communication, the losses are less as compared to the one in copper cables. In copper cables the electromagnetic interference is the phenomenon responsible for high losses as signals flow in electric current form, while in optical fiber the signal travel in light form. Now a days, optical fibers are used for 60% of communication in the world, connecting the continents, make world as a global village. But, how does it related to life? How it is a metaphor for human life?
Fiber optic cable has 3 layers: core, cladding and coating. The optical signal travel in core because it has high refractive index as compared to cladding. To be more precise, core- cladding & coating are made up of material with different refractive index. Total internal reflection (TIR) at core--cladding interface guides the signal inside core along the fiber length. So, the signal can travel to receiver end with less losses, having more efficiency. Our human life is just like the light signal travelling in core. The moment we take birth to the death bed, the period is known as life. This life (light signal) is endorsed inside the human beings, which we see as the body. Our soul is a core, while the outer body is cladding. The spiritual life is invisible to our naked eyes. The same is in optics, which have 8 bands but only one band is visible to our naked eyes, known as visible region (400 nm to 700 nm). The Telecommunication windows are available in the near infrared region (NIR).
Human beings are believed to be most intelligent one among the thousands species present on earth. Our brain is the source of signal (main governing part). All our actions are governed by it. Similarly the optical light source generate the signals. The correct coupling of signal in the fiber core is important in order to let light signal to travel with less losses and longer distance. The signals generated by our brain has to be coupled correctly within our soul. If it is not so, then the results ( actions done by our body) are not good.
If the intensity of signal is less, it is hard to travel longer distance. If we are not clear about our targets, goals and dreams (all have different Meanings, which I will focus more in my next post) in life, then it's easy to get deviate and in the long run we have unnecessary problems ( Necessary problems are good, as they increase our strength).
In order to be more efficient and get more from this life, we have to take control of our thoughts (generated by brain as light signals is generated by light source). More clear is the vision, more efficient is the life. For sure there will be losses ( there is no ideal scientific system in the world without losses), but these losses can be reduced easily. As in optical communication the refractive index is important, in our life discipline is analogous to it. The more discipline our soul is, the more productive it is.
The love is a solution to remove bending losses (as in fibers). The more we live from inside out (rather than outside in), the more straight is our life. The life full of happiness, love and joy is perfect medicine for all losses ( diseases & problems).
